St.Ignatius Loyola Aided Hr.Primary School, Paladka-574278 celebrated an Independence Day in the morning on 15th August, 2009 in the school premises.
The School People Leader Master Abishek S. Anchan brought the assembly to order and requested Shri Hilary D'Souza, Senior Manager (Retd.), Corporation Bank and prevailing President of Catholic Sabha Mangalore Pradesh (R), Unit: Paladka-574278 for hoisting the flag. As the flag was unfurled, the students along with others saluted the flag and sung the national anthem.
In his address, Shri Hilary D'Souza stated that the whole nation is rejoicing and celebrating the Day in commemoration of Independence secured by the nation on 15.08.1947. He told that towards achieving this goal a number of patriots and leaders like Subashchandra Bose, Lala Lajpat Rai, Bhagat Singh, Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Sardar Vallabbhai Patel and a number of unknown freedom fighters had struggled and sacrificed their lives for the nation.
He touched the history how British, Portuguese, French came as traders and established their colonisation and how they slowly captured the power to take control of Indian Affairs, how an uprising of Sepoy Mutiny during 1857 marked the beginning of the struggle for Independence and how could Mahatma Gandhi could succeed in liberating India through Ahimsa, how India became a Republic on 26.01.1950 by abolishing about 400 rulers reigns in India and how India became a largest democracy in the world arena and how its Govt. runs, i.e., by the people, of the people and for the people. He also stated that Unity in Diversity is India's speciality. Coming to the tricolour flag he explained the meaning of deep saffron at the top - courage, sacrifice and the spirit of renunciation, the white in the middle - purity and truth and the green at the bottom - faith and fertility. The center symbol in navy blue colour wheel having 24 spokes indicating there is life in its movement and death in stagnation.
The Correspondent of the School, Rev. Fr. Stany Rodrigues in his address reminded of the sacrifices and struggles done by our freedom fighters and the then leaders for getting freedom for Indiaand explained how India has become a secular state and how people of different caste and creed live in unity, harmony and peace in a unique country like India.
Shri Alwyn D'Souza, Grama Panchayat Member of Paladka Panchayat and also a member of School Betterment Committee was the guest of honour.
Headmaster of the SchoolShri Devadas Hegde, teachers were present. Sr.Josina extended vote of thanks at the end of the programme. Shri Alan D'Souza took photographs on the occation. Sweets were distributed to the school children after the function.
